Not Your Ordinary Date Night

By LIVunLtd Resident Experience Manager, Arianna Lazos

Whether you’re in a long-term relationship or testing the waters with a new beau, we’ve rounded up a list of the ultimate, under-the-radar spots to add to your date night rotation. Some old, some new, and the tried-and-true. Any of these finds are great when you’re in the mood for something different, without sacrificing quality along the way.

Sel Rrose

1 DELANCEY STREET BETWEEN BOWERY + CHRYSTIE STREET

Looking for a light bite and strong drinks? This is the place. With a rustic, yet chic ambiance, this place is a unique treasure. Request a table outside on Delancey and order the chickpea fries. Throwing back oysters and discussing passersby will give you and your date something to talk about all night.

Emilio’s Ballato

55 EAST HOUSTON STREET BETWEEN MOTT + MULBERRY STREET

This Italian treasure is as old school as it gets. It’s go-to spot for celebs like the Jonas Brothers, Emily Ratajkowski, Leo, and even the likes of Rihanna. If you can grab a table during prime time, plan to be there for a while. You never know who might walk in or who you’ll be seated next to. Let the house wine flow, baked clams come out, sit back and enjoy. Don’t forget to end the night with a cannoli!

Takahachi

145 DUANE STREET BETWEEN CHURCH STREET + WEST BROADWAY

Best kept secret alert! While we all enjoy a “hotspot” sushi experience, there is also something remarkably special about a neighborhood sushi spot that’s known for its too-cool-for-Nobu clientele. The blackened tuna with honey mustard is prepared with love by Mr. Takahachi himself and is served with black pepper time and time again. Good luck ordering just one! Did I mention they also serve sake out of a wooden box?

Salinas

136 9TH AVENUE BETWEEN WEST 18TH + 19TH STREET

Muy romantico! Inspired by the Mediterranean coast of Spain, Salinas has a magical quality that makes you feel like you’ve been transported overseas. Maybe it’s the glass ceiling garden (that retracts when the weather allows), or the imported roses from Ecuador (which arrive weekly). Order one of their incredible paellas, and ask your server to help pair your meal with the perfect wine. It’s a charming, Michelin-worthy, culinary experience neither of you will soon forget. Plus, this gem is conveniently located next to Bathtub Gin for post-dinner cocktails.

Sweet Chick

178 LUDLOW STREET BETWEEN STANTON STREET + EAST HOUSTON

This downtown hangout is known for chicken and waffles, cheeky cocktail names, and out-of-this-world specials. There tends to be a wait, but I recommend trying your odds at the Lower East Side location any time of the week. The menu has plenty of staples to choose from, but you should absolutely start off with the Kale BLT salad. You and your date will be definitely be going fork-to-fork over the last piece.

Odeon

145 WEST BROADWAY AT THOMAS STREET

You can’t go wrong with a classic, and TriBeCa’s Odeon is definitely that. As one of the Manhattan’s longstanding French restaurants, the room has that old New York charm that truly can’t be beaten. Not too serious, but nothing to scoff at either, it’s the ideal establishment to sit back with a dirty martini, a dozen oysters, and of course their famous burger and fries. Sometimes simplicity can go a long way.
