Al Fresco Fitness: The Outside Workout Classes to Try

After five months, NYC gyms are now allowed to reopen, but indoor group fitness is not on the docket (yet!). We’re here to share six of our favorite fitness studios that have brought their programs outdoors. Perfect for those who have missed the group workout experience and just in time to enjoy the last bits of the summer warmth.

BOX+FLOW and bodyART
Vale Park at The William Vale, Williamsburg
The signature classes by Box + Flow and bodyART now have a residency through September in Vale Park which features therapy-based movement training, shadow boxing, HIIT, and vinyasa flow. The bodyART method is set to amazing music and deep house rhythms. Expect to sweat, stretch, and strengthen your body as you prevent injuries, reduce joint pain, and ensure longterm sustainable health. Weights and mats provided. Feel free to bring your own mat if you prefer. Social Distancing Guidelines will be followed. Don’t forget your mask!
Poolside Yoga with OneYogaHouse
The Montauk Beach House
Enjoy outdoor yoga with OneYogaHouse at the spacious poolside lounge at the Montauk Beach House through October. A dynamic, Iyengar-inspired Vinyasa flow experience that is intentional, fun, and guided by the rhythm of the breath. Expect a rigorous flow where students are challenged both physically and mentally, lots of movement, and to break a sweat. BYO Mat or rent one on-site!

Backyard at Hudson Yards, Montauk, Bridgehampton, Water Mill, and Southampton!
Head to Hudson Yards to enjoy the Backyard at Hudson Yards complete with seasonal drinks, outdoor dining, outdoor workouts, and family-friendly activities on the Public Square & Gardens. SoulCycle and Equinox are holding group fitness classes right next to the Vessel. If you’re out east, enjoy one of their Hamptons locations!
The Cliffs at DUMBO
DUMBO, Brooklyn
The Cliffs at DUMBO offers bouldering, a type of rock climbing that is focused on movement and requires no experience, rope, or partner. Book a two-hour time slot in advance and don’t forget your mask. Rock on!
Stoop Yoga with Brooklyn Museum
Prospect Heights, Brooklyn
Enjoy a morning of socially distant yoga and meditation on the steps of The Brooklyn Museum. The classes focus on gentle heart-opening techniques to reconnect with your breath, encourage joy, and prompt new beginnings. Masks are required for all adults and children over the age of 2. Tickets include general admission to the museum so you can explore post-flow. Bring your own mat to this one!

Elements Fitness Stand-Up Paddleboarding
East Hampton
Elements Fitness has incorporated its barre exercises with stand-up paddleboard techniques. The classes are all held outside on Saturdays, with sanitized boards and paddles provided. You can also join them for personal SUP classes and excursions – perfect for a small gathering!
